Louise from My Fabric Flowers is another fantastic exhibitor who will be at the Tiny Weddings Fair on 30th Sept at the Wycombe Swan.  She makes bouquets and other accessories out of her own handmade fabric flowers.  She is based in Princes Risborough, Bucks and makes bouquets and centrepieces out of fabric, lace, buttons, brooches, ribbons, and any embellishments you might suggest!  Come along to chat with her on the 30th September!

Tell us a little about yourself and what you make.

My Fabric Flowers came into being about eighteen months ago as I wanted to create alternative handmade bridal bouquets, making them with fabric, buttons, brooches, embellishments, lace and ribbons and any other articles I can find.   They are bespoke and one-offs so you will never see another one the same.  They can also be displayed as a centrepiece on a table or grouped together as a fabric flower decoration.  Shabby chic,  boho, vintage wedding themes are very popular with my clients.

What do you like about tiny weddings?

Small weddings are very interesting as they can be more intimate and can allow for more expression of the the couple in their decoration or where they choose to hold their wedding.  The larger the wedding the venue has to come into play and questions of can everyone fit into the church and what is wanted or would like to have has to take second place to a certain extent.

Do you think smaller weddings are on the rise?

Smaller weddings really do suit some people, so I hope it will continue.  But often couples might feel guilty, or pressured to invite all of their family and friends.

What sort of tiny weddings would especially like to be involved in?

A woodland wedding with the trees lit up and all the tables decorated would be lovely to be involved with.

Have you been involved in smaller weddings, what did you do?

I have been involved with a couple of tiny weddings which have been easier to manage and provide bouquets and decorations for.  One of my clients had her reception in her own large garden.  The other wedding was also using the clients’ garden and having a background of the river, it was a great venue.

Tiny Weddings Fair Exhibitor - Holly and Ivy

Shelley is another fantastic exhibitor who will be at the Tiny Weddings Fair on 30th Sept at the Wycombe Swan.  The florists Holly and Ivy Flowers, that she runs with her sister, is based out of a beautiful farm building in Chalfont St Giles.  They are ideal suppliers for a tiny wedding because they aren’t target driven and don’t have huge overheads to cover, or time constraints, which means no budget is too big, or too small for them.

Please introduce yourself and your business.

My name is Shelley and I am the creative hands behind the Holly and Ivy Flowers team. The business is shared between myself and my sister Holly (Where we got our name. Yes her middle name really is Ivy!)  We have been in business since last August.  I have been in the flower industry for over twelve years and can honestly say it is one of the best jobs in the world!  If you can put up with the cold in the winter!  My days are full of colour and I get to be creative and play around with flowers all day.

What do you love about tiny weddings?

I love working on a tiny wedding because everything is in the detail.  Having had a tiny wedding myself on a pier in Cyprus with our nearest and dearest an intimate wedding is very close to my heart.  There may not be many flowers but the pieces the couple choose tend to be more personal and more statement pieces. They can afford to take their time on the finer details. You really get to know the couple and feel a part of their special day.

How do you think the couples are different when working with a large wedding versus a tiny wedding?

Couples having a tiny wedding have every single detail covered because its normally a small and very intimate setting.  Large weddings have a lot more to think of and plan.

What are the main differences in the way you do business when dealing with a tiny wedding?

I do business the same whether it be a small or large wedding. I treat every couple with the same attention to detail.

Can you give us an example of a tiny wedding you have worked on and what you did for the couple?

We have done many tiny weddings and work very closely with the couple. For example we had a couple who didn’t want to follow the very pink trend but didn’t really know what theme they wanted to go for, so we sat down and went through lots of magazines and looked closely at the venue they had chosen and the time of the year of the wedding. We came across a few favourite flowers and narrowed it down to a vintage old rose look for a small barn wedding.  Some couples come in and know exactly what they want but others would like the help and advice which we are more than happy to give.

Do you feel there has been an increase in tiny weddings in the past few years or have you always worked with a lot of small wedding parties?

Yes I do, with more and more couples choosing to buy the house or have the family before marriage the budget tends to be a lot smaller.  So a smaller and more intimate wedding tends to be what they choose.

If you could work on a tiny wedding anywhere in the world, any theme, any couple; where or what or whom would it be?

If I could go anywhere it would be Italy.  I fell in love with Italy whilst there on our honeymoon and could imagine the most beautiful and romantic wedding over-looking Lake Como with the most delicious food and wine! Not forgetting the flowers, which would add to the breath-taking surroundings.
