Tell us a little about yourself and what you make.

My Fabric Flowers came into being about eighteen months ago as I wanted to create alternative handmade bridal bouquets, making them with fabric, buttons, brooches, embellishments, lace and ribbons and any other articles I can find.   They are bespoke and one-offs so you will never see another one the same.  They can also be displayed as a centrepiece on a table or grouped together as a fabric flower decoration.  Shabby chic,  boho, vintage wedding themes are very popular with my clients.

What do you like about tiny weddings?

Small weddings are very interesting as they can be more intimate and can allow for more expression of the the couple in their decoration or where they choose to hold their wedding.  The larger the wedding the venue has to come into play and questions of can everyone fit into the church and what is wanted or would like to have has to take second place to a certain extent.

Do you think smaller weddings are on the rise?

Smaller weddings really do suit some people, so I hope it will continue.  But often couples might feel guilty, or pressured to invite all of their family and friends.

What sort of tiny weddings would especially like to be involved in?

A woodland wedding with the trees lit up and all the tables decorated would be lovely to be involved with.

Have you been involved in smaller weddings, what did you do?

I have been involved with a couple of tiny weddings which have been easier to manage and provide bouquets and decorations for.  One of my clients had her reception in her own large garden.  The other wedding was also using the clients’ garden and having a background of the river, it was a great venue.

We have been running for two years, this year being our main year we have been booked up all through the summer!  We sell luxurious drinks covering pretty much any style of drink! Such as milkshakes, fresh juices, iced coffee and teas, prosecco, beers, cocktails… any anything the couple request. All are made using the best ingredients and are finished at a very high quality standard each with an extra special touch.  Working from a beautifully converted vintage horse box we fit into any theme of wedding perfectly, our bar never fails to impress especially with our magical fairy lights brightening up the scene. In addition as our bar is white we can always add some extra special decorations to match the theme of your magical day.

What drinks will you be selling to couples on the day at the Tiny Weddings Fair?

For the fair, we will be serving up our mocktails, fresh juices, hot chocolates and milkshakes. There will be many different flavours of each drink type for you to select from which is what we also take to wedding so all will be able to enjoy the treats we provide.

What are your plans for the coming year?

This year my aim is to focus on being a part of more weddings, especially smaller sized weddings as they are more close-knit and special in their own unique ways. I feel smaller weddings are able to reflect more of the bride and groom’s personalities. So I love how this Tiny Weddings fair focuses on this target and are able to bring very high quality businesses in contact with these brides and grooms.

Can you tell us a little about what drinks and refreshments you can offer for weddings?

We offer any style of drink the couple wish from prosecco to bottled beers. We do fresh juices and milkshakes which are nice for an afternoon service and our cocktails are always a hit for the evening time. Hot chocolates are perfect for the winter weddings to heat up your guests too. All of our drinks are made using only the highest quality products and are decorated each to a high elaborate standard.

How do you think the couples are different when working with a large wedding versus a tiny wedding?

The couple are able to have more say on the entire wedding. The little details can be explored further and clearly seen rather than being overshadowed by the larger wedding’s expectations. Many couples who choose a smaller wedding do so to avoid stress, and it is always my goal to relieve as much stress as possible prior to the big day, nobody likes stress!

Give an example of a tiny wedding you have worked on and what you did for the couple.

I had a wedding back in July for an Indian couple. I established a very close connection to the bride talking for hours about ideas she had for the day and how she wanted things to run. They had me in for a morning service in the end, serving up luxury milkshakes and juices to the guests from 8am until 10am but we stayed through till lunch as it was such a wonderful celebration.

If you could work on a tiny wedding anywhere in the world with any theme what would it be?

It would be a festival theme wedding in the middle of the countryside. With a boho classic style theme in the open air for any couple. Not only would this be a picturesque wedding to work for but I secretly would like something similar for my special day in the future.

What do you love about tiny weddings?

We love to see the intimacy and closeness.

How do you think the couples are different when working with a large wedding versus a tiny wedding?

In our experience they are far more relaxed due to less co ordination and planning.

Domeafava Tiny Weddings Fair 4729

What are the main differences in the way you do business when dealing with a tiny wedding?

Not a lot to be honest, for any wedding the bride and groom requests are at the forefront so we will always put them first regardless of size

Can you tell us about a tiny wedding you have worked on recently?

We had a tiny wedding at short notice in Birmingham which we were asked to do something for; we catered for both the adults and children favours by providing pick and mix sweets for kids and nuts for adults, and set up our ferris wheel with cupcakes.

Domeafava Tiny Weddings Fair 4725

Do you feel there has been an increase in tiny weddings in the past few years?

We have only recently started this business so we can’t really say from a business perspective.  However we have noticed even through friends and family’s weddings the numbers are definitely trimming.

If you could create something for a tiny wedding anywhere in the world, any theme, any couple; where or what or whom would it be?

I would recreate my own wedding with my wife at Anfield Stadium with all the LFC team in attendance.  Although I don’t think this is a unanimous vote for the Domeafava team!

Tiny Weddings Fair - the Silver Workshop 2

Please introduce yourself and tell us about what you make.

I’m am Liz Dee and I am The Silver Workshop. I am a small, independent silver jeweller based in the village of Haddenham in Buckinghamshire. Working in my garden workshop, I create a varied array of handcrafted jewellery – necklaces, pendants, earrings, brooches, cufflinks and of course rings! Working mostly in sterling silver, I also incorporate gold and semi-precious stones in some of my pieces. As well as my range of jewellery, I also make bespoke one-off commissions and a range of wearable keepsakes including handwriting jewellery and jewellery designed from children’s drawings. I also personalised jewellery for him and her.

Tiny Weddings Fair - the Silver Workshop 1

What do you love about tiny weddings?

Having had a small wedding myself, I love the intimacy of a small wedding. It’s more personal and you are able to enjoy every moment as a couple and there’s time to enjoy everyone who you chose to share your special day with you.

cof

What wedding rings do you offer?

I make a variety of silver wedding bands. I can also make special commissions, these can incorporate a design or symbol which is special to the couple.  For example I once made a pair of wedding rings with a Lover’s Knot.  When apart the knot looks like a pattern on each ring, but when put together they formed the Lover’s Knot. All my rings are made to order and I invite couples to visit my workshop so that together they can choose exactly what they want.

cof

What else have you made for non-traditional ceremonies?

I’m open to any ideas posed by the couple. On one occasion I made a pair of commitment rings for a couple who wanted to commit to each other, but weren’t ready to make it official.

dav

Have you ever had a couple ask you for a piece of jewellery for their wedding that isn’t a ring?

I have made a number of personalised necklaces and bracelets which brides have given to their bridesmaids either when asking them to be their bridesmaids or as a ‘thank you’. I have also made personalised cufflinks for the grooms and best men. I have made personalised cutlery and even made a personalised silver tea light holder for a couple to commemorate their wedding.

If you could be involved with a tiny wedding anywhere, where would it be?

All weddings are lovely but the thought of a wedding on a desert island would really appeal to me.

Why do think couples might of choose to have a smaller wedding?

Tiny weddings give couples the opportunity to totally personalise their wedding. I often hear brides having problems when the wedding is larger than planned; be it with the venue, catering, and even the table plan. Brides can lose control and struggle focus on what’s important to them. If the wedding is small the bride may not have to worry over bridesmaids and coordinated colours and it’s all down to her choice instead.

Tiny Weddings Fair Roses Bridal Room 0279e

Do you think smaller weddings are on the rise among your clients?

I am definitely seeing more brides keeping guest numbers below fifty, not just because of finances but again down to choice and what’s important to the couple.  The smallest wedding of one of my brides was earlier in the year; in a beautiful tree house with just four guests.  It looked like an amazing venue and the bride looked stunning too.

Tiny Weddings Fair Exhibitor – Hazel Buckley Photographer

Tiny Weddings Fair - Hazel Buckley Photographer

Today we make another addition to our interview series with exhibitors who will be at the Tiny Weddings Fair on 30th Sept at the Wycombe Swan.  We’re very excited to have the hugely experienced and talented photographer Hazel Buckley at our fair.  She began her career in journalism, and she feels that affects her style as a wedding photographer.  So, she is queen of capturing the candid moments that show the emotion of your wedding.

Please introduce yourself.

I am a wedding photographer based in Berkshire and I have photographed a lot of weddings over fourteen years – I’ve lost count, to be honest.  I was a newspaper shooter for some time but switching to weddings was one of the best things I ever did.  My photo-journalistic background means I document the story of your day – your love story

I adore meeting new people, I get to travel (how lucky am I?) but mostly I am passionate about making pictures for people! I’m lost without my camera and I love it almost as much as I love my two sons. I never get bored of photographing weddings – each  being individual and exclusive to the next – I have the best job in the world.

How do you think the couples are different when working with a large wedding versus a tiny wedding?

I have noticed that fewer people at a wedding means less stress.  It’s all about them and the celebration.  Nobody is worried about the flowers that aren’t quite the ‘right shade of pink’ or if they can get the older relatives up the stairs – of course these things are important for bigger weddings – but it just doesn’t happen at smaller weddings.  People are more relaxed – traditions are thrown out of the window and replaced by a unique and creative way of saying ‘I do’.

Tiny Weddings Fair Hazel Buckley 4 Italy

What do you love about tiny weddings?

I have photographed lots of big, beautiful weddings throughout my career but it’s the smaller ones that I remember the most. It simple really – tiny weddings are about the people.  The couples choose exactly who they want there with them – I have never seen one smart phone recording or taking pictures at a tiny wedding but I have seen true emotion from the guests which I can capture and share with them later.

Can you give an example of a tiny wedding you have worked on?

The tiniest wedding I photographed was a couple in Perth, Australia. It was just the two of them plus the celebrant in their garage! They asked me to be their witness too – which was my privilege.

Tiny Weddings Fair Hazel Buckley 6 Perth

Do you feel there has been an increase in tiny weddings in the past few years or have you always worked with a lot of small wedding parties?

I have worked mostly with big weddings but I’ve had more enquiries for smaller wedding of late and I have seen a lot on social media.  I think some couples are loving the locations open to them for tiny wedding which means their wedding pictures can have some of the most amazing back drops.  I also believe couples who chose to have a tiny wedding spend the day embracing each other, the love and emotion which sometimes at a big wedding can get lost in a crowd when I see couples going their separate ways to chat to friends and family.

What are the main differences in the way you do business when dealing with a tiny wedding?

I don’t do business any differently, really.  I like working with people and I feel I give my best to whoever contacts me.  However, saying that, I guess one difference would be that I can give the couple more of my attention with a smaller wedding.  Sometimes at a larger weddings I have felt as though I’m trying to please lots of people – even when the bride or groom have specifically asked for something and another relative doesn’t agree!  At tiny weddings I have only a few people to please and we can spend lots of time chatting, or emailing about the day.  And usually if there are guests they have surrounded themselves with ‘like-minds’.

Tiny Weddings Fair Hazel Buckley 1 Italy

If you could create something for a tiny wedding anywhere in the world, any theme, any couple; where or what or whom would it be?

Wow what a question!  I’m not sure if it would be New York, Iceland, Scotland, then again maybe on the beach in Greece.  Lets go with New York – a snowy, stylish affair in Central Park… no I’ve changed my mind lets go to Iceland.  I visited Iceland recently and fell in love with the place – such beautiful passionate people and the land just takes your breath away.  I don’t know enough about it to organise a wedding there but I would happily follow any couple and their planner to any part of it!  I mention Scotland because that is another place I love and I was married there a long time ago now – just me, my husband our two best friends.  It was the perfect marriage for us – we laughed and cried all weekend – and drank too much whiskey – which you can get away with at a tiny wedding!
